Burnley have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Slovakia international Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United. The 36-year-old arrives at Turf Moor on a one-year deal, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed, Sport360NG reports.

Dubravka brings a wealth of Premier League experience, having first joined Newcastle on loan from Sparta Prague in January 2018. He made 179 appearances for the Magpies, recording 51 clean sheets during his seven-and-a-half-year stint at St James’ Park.

A standout moment in his recent career came last season during Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph, where he played a pivotal role, keeping clean sheets in both legs of the semi-final win over Arsenal.

Burnley moved to secure a replacement for 22-year-old James Trafford, who returned to Manchester City in July. The Clarets confirmed the deal set a new record for the highest transfer fee paid for a British goalkeeper.

Speaking to Burnley’s official website, Dubravka said: “Everything I’ve heard about the club, its culture and working environment, has been extremely positive.”

Vincent Kompany’s side secured promotion back to the Premier League following a dominant Championship campaign, amassing 100 points across a remarkable 33-game unbeaten run. Despite their impressive tally, they narrowly missed out on the title to Leeds United on goal difference.

“Burnley had a fantastic season last year, built on a solid defensive foundation,” Dubravka added. “I’m looking forward to contributing my experience and helping what already looks like a very talented squad.”
