Former Bengals Running Back Rudi Johnson Dies at 45
Rudi Johnson, a standout running back who spent the majority of his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, has passed away at the age of 45, Sport360NG reports.
Drafted in the fourth round in 2001, Johnson became a key figure in Cincinnati’s offense during the 2000s. His most memorable season came in 2005 when he rushed for 1,458 yards, a single-season franchise record at the time.
After seven seasons with the Bengals, Johnson finished his playing career with the Detroit Lions in 2008 before retiring from the league. Across his eight NFL seasons, he amassed 5,979 rushing yards and scored 51 touchdowns.
Bengals president Mike Brown paid tribute to Johnson, describing him as both a reliable performer and a beloved teammate.
“Rudi was not only a fine running back but also a great person,” Brown said. “He was consistent, productive, and well-liked by everyone around him. His loss is deeply felt.”
Johnson, whose full name was Burudi Ali Johnson, sits fourth on Cincinnati’s all-time rushing list, trailing only Corey Dillon, James Brooks, and Joe Mixon.
