Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been discharged from both hospital and police custody after being stabbed and subsequently arrested in Indianapolis, Sport360NG reports.

The 38-year-old, who sustained multiple stab wounds to his torso, was released under a judicial condition requiring him to be formally processed at Marion County Jail. The procedure included fingerprinting and a booking photograph before he was allowed to leave custody.

Speaking briefly after his release, Sanchez told reporters he was “recovering slowly” from his injuries and added that the healing process would take time. “Sorry I can’t answer all your questions,” he said.

Sanchez, who has worked as a Fox Sports analyst since 2021, was in Indianapolis to cover Sunday’s NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders on October 5.

A day earlier, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed it was investigating an altercation between two men that left one with lacerations and another with stab wounds.

In a follow-up statement, IMPD said Sanchez had been hospitalized but was arrested on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.

Fox Sports released a statement confirming that Sanchez was recovering in hospital and was in stable condition.

Sanchez was selected fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, where he led the team to consecutive AFC Championship appearances in his first two seasons.

Over a decade-long professional career that also included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington Commanders, Sanchez threw for 15,357 yards, recording 86 touchdowns and 89 interceptions.

After retiring from the league in 2019, he transitioned into broadcasting, joining ESPN before moving to Fox Sports in 2021.
