Brazil and Real Madrid great Roberto Carlos has reassured fans that he is recovering well after undergoing what he described as a planned preventative medical procedure, Sport360NG reports.

The 52-year-old former left-back shared an update on Instagram, posting a photo of himself smiling from a hospital bed and moving quickly to dismiss reports suggesting he had suffered a heart attack.

“I would like to clarify recent information that has been circulating,” Carlos wrote. “I recently underwent a preventative medical procedure, planned in advance with my medical team. The procedure was successful, and I am well. I did not suffer a heart attack.”

He added that his recovery was progressing smoothly and that he expects to return to his professional and personal commitments in the near future.

Carlos thanked supporters for their messages of concern and appreciation, insisting there was no cause for alarm, and also expressed gratitude to the medical staff involved in his care.

One of the most decorated players in Real Madrid’s history, Carlos made 527 appearances for the Spanish giants, winning four La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies. He was also part of Brazil’s World Cup-winning squad in 2002.

Famed for his powerful free kicks and attacking style from left-back, Carlos also played for clubs including Palmeiras, Inter Milan, Fenerbahce and Corinthians.
