BREAKING: Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after 114 days in charge

Nottingham Forest have dismissed head coach Sean Dyche, making him the club’s third managerial casualty of a turbulent campaign, Sport360NG reports.

The decision was taken shortly after Wednesday night’s goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, a match in which Forest failed to convert any of their 35 attempts on goal. Confirmation of Dyche’s departure came shortly after 12.30am on Thursday, around three hours after the final whistle at the City Ground.

Dyche’s tenure lasted just 114 days, following earlier dismissals of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou this season. Postecoglou endured only 39 days in charge before being relieved of his duties.

Forest’s hierarchy, led by owner Evangelos Marinakis, acted after a three-match winless run in the Premier League. Draws against Crystal Palace and Wolves were compounded by a damaging 3-1 defeat to relegation rivals Leeds United last Friday.

The club sit three points above the relegation zone with 12 league fixtures remaining.

Attacking Struggles Prove Costly

Dyche was appointed with a clear mandate: secure survival and steer Forest towards mid-table stability. His contract, which ran until the end of next season, reflected the short-term nature of that objective.

However, Forest’s blunt attack ultimately undermined his position. Despite significant investment, approximately £180m spent in the summer, with further reinforcements added in January, the club have scored just 25 goals in 26 league matches.

A favourable run of fixtures against struggling opponents offered an opportunity to create breathing space, yet Forest collected only two points from meetings with Palace, Leeds and Wolves. The inability to capitalise, particularly against a Wolves side rooted to the foot of the table, intensified internal frustration.

The squad boasts recognised attacking talent in the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Elliot Anderson, but converting possession and chances into goals has remained a persistent issue.

European Test Looms

Forest now face a pivotal week. After a seven-day break, with players granted Thursday off, attention turns to next Thursday’s Europa League play-off clash with Fenerbahce in Turkey, followed by a demanding Premier League encounter against Liverpool.

Whoever steps into the dugout will inherit a squad hovering above the relegation zone and preparing for a crucial European assignment.

Dyche’s Final Remarks

Speaking after the stalemate with Wolves, Dyche acknowledged the realities of modern football and the authority of ownership.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” he said. “If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“I care about this club. I’ve made that clear and I’ve worked very hard. If the owner wants to make a change, that’s up to him, that’s the reality of football.

“I’m not questioning the owner. He’s been absolutely fair with me from beginning to end, and I’ve been honest with him every step of the way. I understand the noise has changed significantly over the last few games.”

Forest’s search for stability continues, with survival, and perhaps more, still hanging in the balance.
