Spanish Government Calls for Investigation into Lamine Yamal’s Birthday Party Allegations
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal is facing mounting criticism and potential legal consequences following reports surrounding his recent 18th birthday celebration, which has sparked public outrage in Spain.
The event, which took place on July 13 and was attended by around 200 guests including family, friends, and teammates, is under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that individuals with dwarfism were hired as entertainment and that women were selected to attend based on their physical appearance.
Model Claudia Calvo took to social media to claim that the Spanish international paid for a dozen women with specific breast measurements to be present at the party. Her allegations have since prompted widespread condemnation and a call for official action.
Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights has expressed concern over the nature of the celebration. According to Marca, government officials are considering a fine of up to €1 million (£867,000), and Jesús Martín, Director General of Disability, is urging ministers to authorise a formal investigation.
“We are alarmed that people with wealth and influence believe themselves to be above the law,” Martín said. “The law applies equally to all, whether powerful or humble.”
The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE) has also responded strongly, condemning the alleged hiring of individuals with dwarfism for entertainment purposes. The organisation, which is part of the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, has announced plans to pursue both legal and social action.
“ADEE publicly denounces the use of people with dwarfism as entertainment during the recent celebration of footballer Lamine Yamal’s birthday,” the group stated. “Such actions are not only ethically indefensible but also in violation of existing laws and the values of a society striving for equality and respect.”
Yamal has yet to respond publicly to the controversy.
