From Nobody to Goal machine: Teenage Prodigy Tobiloba Adeoye Emerging from Kwara’s Fields

In Alápa, a quiet agricultural town in Kwara State where farming often takes priority over football, a 14-year-old is quietly rewriting the local narrative. Tobiloba Adeoye, once just another village boy with a love for the game, is now turning heads with his extraordinary rise through grassroots football.

In a place better known for its fertile land and bustling local markets, Adeoye is becoming something of a rare export, footballing talent. After joining the Kwara Football Academy from Koller Football Academy, the young forward has become a standout figure in the Kwara Kiddies League.

Adeoye recorded 14 goals and 7 assists in the 2023 season and matched his goal tally the following year, making him the league’s top scorer in back-to-back campaigns. He also scooped the Most Valuable Player award, underlining his growing reputation as one to watch, Sport360NG reports.

“My journey started in 2022 when I was just 10,” Adeoye told Sport360NG. “I used to play for fun until a coach discovered me in our village.”

That coach, Usman Jubril of Koller Football Academy, remembers spotting the raw gem during a visit to Alápa. He had come for a friendly match but ended up finding a star in the making.

“I saw what he could do despite his age,” Jubril told Sport360NG. “I believed in him so much I personally took care of his welfare, transport, everything for over two years.”

Initially deployed as a midfielder, Adeoye’s natural instincts quickly prompted a switch to striker. The decision proved inspired.

“We built the team around him,” Jubril said. “He finished as top scorer in his debut season, repeated it the next year, and everyone started taking notice.”

Adeoye’s talent isn’t confined to local competition. At the 2025 Chief of Naval Staff U-14 Boys’ Tournament in Kaduna, he netted five goals and contributed four assists for Kwara State, clinching another MVP award and solidifying his status as a rising star.

Now based full-time at Kwara Football Academy, the teenager is adjusting to life away from home while keeping his eyes on the future.

“It’s been a good experience,” he said shyly, speaking to Sport360NG. “I want to play for the national teams U-15, U-17, U-20 and eventually the Super Eagles. My dream is to play for Real Madrid.”

Asked about his football idols, the answer came quickly. “Cristiano Ronaldo. I used to watch him a lot. And I also like Taiwo Awoniyi.”

The admiration for Awoniyi another Kwara-born striker and sponsor of the Kwara Kiddies League has earned Adeoye a nickname among teammates: “Awoniyi.” The similarities in style and hunger for goals have not gone unnoticed.

“I used to score like Awoniyi,” Adeoye said with a smile.

Despite hailing from a community where education often takes second place to subsistence farming, Adeoye hasn’t lost sight of the importance of learning. He transferred from Government Secondary School, Alápa to continue his education at the academy and revealed that, if not for football, medicine might have been his path.

“I wanted to be a doctor,” he said. “I was a science student before joining the academy.”

Coach Jubril, who has mentored the teenager through this journey, is convinced the best is yet to come.

“He’s a special talent,” he told Sport360NG. “Tobiloba will make Kwara and Nigeria proud. He’s just getting started.”

With 32 goals and 13 assists across three seasons, and dreams stretching from Alápa’s red earth to the Santiago Bernabéu’s pristine pitch, Tobiloba Adeoye is not just a footballer in the making, he’s a story of belief, sacrifice, and bold ambition.

“I just want people to follow my journey,” he said. “I have big dreams.”
