Dubois Eyes Legacy-Defining Victory in Usyk Rematch
Daniel Dubois says victory over Oleksandr Usyk this weekend would cement his place among boxing’s all-time greats, as he targets the undisputed heavyweight crown at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Dubois, who was stopped by Usyk in their first meeting in 2023, returns for a highly anticipated rematch with the Ukrainian champion on Saturday. A win would make him Britain’s first undisputed heavyweight king since Lennox Lewis.
Now holding the IBF title following a breakout year, the 26-year-old Londoner is aiming to dethrone Usyk and unify the belts in front of a home crowd.
“This is a legacy moment,” Dubois said. “Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Rocky Marciano – these are the names you remember in boxing history. I want to be up there with them. Saturday will speak for itself. I’ll bring chaos to the ring and win however I need to.”
Dubois has endured a rollercoaster career since turning professional. Criticised for his stoppage defeat to Joe Joyce in 2020, he rebuilt with four wins before falling to Usyk in Poland. But the heavyweight has since roared back, producing statement stoppages against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua – the latter a career-defining performance last September.
Reflecting on his rise, Dubois admitted he couldn’t have predicted the journey but always believed he’d reach this point.
“It’s been a long road – from early gym sessions with my dad to now. I kept the belief, Frank [Warren] and the team kept backing me, and here we are. I’ve trained for this moment my whole life.”
Promoter Frank Warren added: “When Usyk fought him last time, he faced a boy. Now he’s facing a man. Usyk might be the standout heavyweight of this generation, but no one stays unbeaten forever. Daniel’s time is now.”
