Wissa leaves Brentford pre-season training camp Amid interest from other EPL clubs

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has departed the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal and returned to London as speculation intensifies over his future.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international is expected to meet with Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, for discussions that could determine whether he remains with the West London club this summer.

Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Nottingham Forest are reportedly monitoring Wissa’s situation closely, with all three sides able to offer European football next season. Sources suggest personal terms would not be a stumbling block, particularly for Spurs and Newcastle, who have stepped up their pursuit in recent days.

Wissa, said to be unsettled by recent transfer speculation, is still expected to rejoin his teammates once they return to London, should he remain a Brentford player.

Although the club has opened talks over a potential contract extension, Wissa is believed to favour a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium during the current transfer window.

His uncertain future comes shortly after the £65 million departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United. While Brentford initially planned to retain at least one of the attacking duo, Wissa’s situation may prompt a rethink, especially as he approaches his 29th birthday in September.

With only a year left on his current deal (although the club holds an option for an additional 12 months), Brentford may be forced to consider offers in the region of £40 million or more, rather than risk losing him for less in the future.

Wissa joined Brentford from French side Lorient in 2021 and has since become a key figure, netting 49 goals in 149 appearances. He enjoyed his most prolific Premier League campaign last season, scoring 19 goals in 35 matches.

The Bees will open their pre-season fixtures against Gil Vicente at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos on July 25.
