Chelsea Star Tosin Adarabioyo Receives African Illustrious Award
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has been honoured with the African Illustrious Award by pan-African media organisation, My Media Africa, in recognition of his groundbreaking achievement as the first Nigerian to win the revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
The African Illustrious Award celebrates individuals of African descent who are making outstanding contributions in fields such as sports, leadership, technology, business, innovation, and the arts. My Media Africa, the award’s organiser, aims to amplify African excellence and inspire future generations across the continent.
In a statement released on Thursday, the organisation highlighted Adarabioyo’s Club World Cup success with Chelsea as a shining example of what can be achieved when skill, determination, and opportunity align.
The 26-year-old defender personally received the award at My Media Africa’s office in Lekki on Wednesday. Speaking at the event, the former Manchester City player expressed gratitude and pride in being recognised for his achievement.
“This award means more than just recognition,” Adarabioyo said. “It’s a celebration of heritage, excellence, and the impact we can make on the world. I’m proud to be part of this history and will continue working hard to earn honours like this.”
Adarabioyo joined Chelsea earlier this summer and played a key role in the club’s triumph at the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, cementing his place in Nigerian football history.
