Aweroro Poised to Take Over as 3SC Head Coach

Ikorodu City’s head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Gbenga Ogunbote at Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Ogunbote’s two-year stint with the Ibadan-based side officially came to an end on Wednesday, prompting the club to intensify efforts to appoint a new technical head. An official announcement is expected later today.

Aweroro’s impressive debut campaign in the topflight with Ikorodu City, guiding the Lagos club to a commendable fourth-place finish, has reportedly put him on 3SC’s radar. The youthful tactician also led the team to the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup, where they were eventually knocked out by Abakaliki FC, who went on to reach the final.

Other names being considered for the job include Edith Agoye, a former 3SC coach who could make a return, and Deji Ayeni, who previously managed Sunshine Stars and Akwa United.

Shooting Stars are looking to turn the page after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, which saw them finish eighth on the log with 15 wins, nine draws, and 14 losses in 38 matches. Their inconsistent form, particularly in the second half of the season, led to the departure of Ogunbote and his entire backroom staff.

The Oluyole Warriors are expected to unveil their new head coach at the club’s secretariat in Ibadan today.
