Maddison Injury Overshadows Spurs Draw with Newcastle

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank fears James Maddison may have suffered a serious knee injury during Sunday’s 1-1 pre-season draw against Newcastle United in Seoul, Sport360NG reports.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who joined Spurs from Leicester City, went down without contact in the closing stages of the match and was stretchered off in visible pain. The incident visibly shook teammates, with captain Son Heung-min appearing emotional as he watched on during what was his farewell appearance for the club.

Frank expressed concern that Maddison may have aggravated the same knee that ruled him out of last season’s Europa League final win over Manchester United.

“Football can be both beautiful and cruel,” Frank said after the match. “Today gave us a bit of both. Maddison’s injury looks serious, and it’s likely the same knee he injured previously. On the other hand, we witnessed some incredible moments for Son, the love from his teammates and the respect from the Newcastle players was something special.”

Brennan Johnson gave Spurs an early lead, scoring inside four minutes. Newcastle levelled just before the break through Harvey Barnes, another former Leicester player.

The full extent of Maddison’s injury is expected to be confirmed after further medical assessment.
