Sha’Carri Richardson Misses Out on 200m Final at US Championships by Slim Margin

American sprint star Sha’Carri Richardson fell just short of qualifying for the women’s 200m final at the US Track and Field Championships in Oregon, missing out by a razor-thin margin of 0.01 seconds, Sport360NG reports.

Richardson clocked 22.56 seconds in her semifinal heat on Sunday, placing fourth, just behind Madison Whyte, who claimed the final qualifying spot with a time of 22.55 seconds.

Although the 25-year-old will still compete at the World Championships in September as the reigning 100m world champion, earning an automatic spot in that event, her hopes of doubling up in the 200m have ended.

The result caps off a turbulent week for Richardson, who was arrested last Sunday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following a domestic incident involving her partner, fellow U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman.

According to a police report, surveillance footage showed Richardson shoving Coleman into a wall and throwing an object at him. She was released the following day. Coleman declined to cooperate with the investigation, reportedly telling officers he did not wish to be identified as a victim.

Richardson did not address the media after her 200m race in Eugene, simply offering a “blessed day” to reporters as she exited the track.

USA Track and Field acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, noting they were “aware of the reports” but would not comment further.

In the men’s 200m final, Coleman finished sixth, while world champion Noah Lyles cruised to victory with a time of 19.63 seconds.
