Real Sociedad open to Sadiq exit only for significant winter offer

Real Sociedad will only sanction Umar Sadiq’s departure in the January transfer window if a substantial and convincing offer arrives, as the Basque club assess ways to bolster their attack ahead of a decisive second half of the season, Sport360NG reports.

According to AS, Sociedad are not actively seeking to move the Nigerian forward on, insisting that any deal must meet their financial expectations. The club regard Sadiq as a valuable asset, he joined for €20m and remains under contract until 2028, and will not approve a loan or permanent transfer unless it provides both financial relief and space in the squad for a more prolific striker.

“The operation will only happen if it satisfies the club’s economic demands,” AS reported, noting that any incoming forward would likely arrive on loan.

Sadiq’s future has become one of the central topics of discussion in the club’s January planning. The 27-year-old is keen to secure regular minutes in the build-up to the World Cup, but Sociedad are equally focused on strengthening a frontline that has struggled for goals.

The club’s sporting department is wary of repeating last season’s depth issues, when injuries and an over-reliance on Mikel Oyarzabal disrupted their campaign. As such, Sociedad may decide to keep Sadiq if he maintains his current form and if potential offers fall short of their valuation. In that case, Jon Karrikaburu could either go out on loan again or remain as a rotational option.

Sadiq has impressed the coaching staff in recent weeks with improved commitment, highlighted by his performances in the Copa del Rey and his impactful cameo against Elche, where he came on in the 64th minute and helped secure a late point.

Despite his desire for more playing time, the striker is said to understand the importance of seizing every opportunity on the pitch as the World Cup approaches.

Sociedad’s renewed reliance on Sadiq in recent matches has been partly due to injuries to Karrikaburu and Orri Oskarsson. The club, however, continue to explore options to reinforce their attacking line in January, with a loan signing considered the most financially viable route.

The report also noted that president Jokin Aperribay rejected underwhelming bids for Sadiq during the summer, including an offer from Valencia, underscoring the firm stance the club will maintain during the winter window.
