Ajayi returns to Hull training ahead of Oxford clash after injury scare

Nigeria international Semi Ajayi has resumed training with Hull City ahead of their Sky Bet Championship encounter against Oxford United, offering a timely boost after concerns over his fitness during the recent international break, Sport360NG reports.

The Super Eagles centre-back had pulled out of Nigeria’s squad prior to their friendly against Jordan following a knock, missing the 2-2 draw in Antalya. He had, however, featured in the earlier 2-1 victory over Iran, where he played 45 minutes.

Ajayi’s return to full training comes as Hull City prepare for a key Easter weekend fixture at the Kassam Stadium, with the defender now in contention to be included in the travelling squad.

Reports from Hull Live indicate that the 32-year-old rejoined his teammates in training at the club’s Cottingham base earlier this week and is expected to travel with the squad ahead of Friday’s clash in Oxfordshire.

The former West Bromwich Albion defender, who arrived at Hull as a free agent last summer, has been an influential presence in the squad, contributing both defensive stability and leadership.

He has made 16 league appearances this season, scoring once, as Hull continue their push for a Championship play-off spot.

Ajayi’s availability is set to provide a significant lift for head coach Sergej Jakirović as the Tigers look to sustain their momentum in the final stretch of the campaign.
