With just days to go before the inaugural West African Para Games for Zones A and B, the National Sports Commission says Abeokuta is fully on course to host a successful event, which will run from November 26 to December 4, Sport360NG reports.

The Games will unite para athletes from across West Africa in Ogun State, an event officials describe as a major milestone for Nigeria’s expanding role in para sports development.

According to the commission, the tournament underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a preferred hub for major international sporting events, a key pillar of the administration’s renewed hope agenda for the sports economy. The initiative aims to boost infrastructure, expand athlete participation and strengthen global engagement across the sector.

Preparations across key operational areas, including accommodation, transportation, venue readiness, medical support, accreditation, media services, security, volunteer mobilisation and classification facilities, are reportedly at advanced stages.

The Local Organising Committee affirmed that Abeokuta is ready to stage a competition that will not only highlight sporting excellence but also showcase the hospitality and cultural richness of Ogun State.

President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, Sunday Odebode, praised the coordination between stakeholders and commended the level of work completed so far. He said the inaugural Games mark an important chapter for para sports in the region and expressed confidence that Nigeria will set a high standard for future editions.

“These Games represent a new dawn for para sports in West Africa,” Odebode said, adding that both athletes and organisers are fully prepared for what he expects to be a historic opening.

He also noted that the event will foster stronger regional collaboration while expanding competitive pathways for para athletes across the continent.
