Idowu set for high-stakes Nigeria–Ghana showdown against Dodoo at GOtv boxing night 34

Rasheed Idowu, better known in the ring as “ID Buster” and the current Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) African light-heavyweight champion, is set to face Ghana’s Nii Offei Dodoo in one of the headline bouts at GOtv Boxing Night 34, Sport360NG reports.

The event, featuring six professional fights, will take place on December 26 at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, with organisers Flykite Productions promising a top-tier festive-season spectacle.

Idowu enters the contest with six wins from eight professional outings and is coming off an impressive April victory over Egypt’s Ahmed Swedy, a result that ensured he retained his UBO title. The 26-year-old is also seeking to maintain his upward trajectory as one of Nigeria’s most promising boxers.

His last meeting with a Ghanaian opponent, however, came with significant controversy. In Accra in 2024, Idowu floored Bastie Samie twice, yet the bout was initially scored a draw. After strong protests from the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), officials later overturned the result in Idowu’s favour, an episode that has added extra motivation ahead of his next cross-border challenge.

Dodoo arrives with a reputation as one of Ghana’s most durable and tactically astute light-heavyweights. His corner has already billed the December matchup as “a statement opportunity,” insisting the Ghanaian will halt Idowu’s rapid rise in the division.

Idowu has responded with confidence, saying his respect for Dodoo “ends at the bell,” and promising fans a performance worthy of the long-standing Nigeria–Ghana boxing rivalry.

With both fighters targeting a breakthrough moment on a major stage, their showdown is widely expected to be the most explosive contest of the night and a potential launchpad to bigger international opportunities for the winner.
