Barcelona pull four points clear after comeback win over Atlético madrid
Barcelona extended their advantage at the top of La Liga to four points after overturning an early deficit to beat Atlético Madrid 3–1 at the Nou Camp, Sport360NG reports.
Alex Baena gave Atlético the lead in the 19th minute, racing onto a long ball over Barça’s high line before lifting his finish over goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The flag initially went up for offside, but the goal was awarded following a VAR review.
Barcelona responded quickly. Raphinha brought the hosts level seven minutes later, latching onto Pedri’s incisive through ball, rounding Jan Oblak and finishing into an empty net.
Hansi Flick’s side dominated the rest of the opening half and had the chance to go ahead when Pablo Barrios brought down Dani Olmo in the box. However, Robert Lewandowski sent the resulting penalty well over the bar.
The second half unfolded at a frantic pace, with both sides creating clear openings. Barcelona eventually pulled in front when Olmo steered a low effort into the bottom corner after a surging run from Lamine Yamal. Atlético should have equalised soon after, but Thiago Almada failed to convert into an empty net after rounding Garcia.
Ferran Torres sealed the points late on, controlling Alejandro Balde’s cross before finishing from close range.
The win, Barça’s fifth in a row since their El Clásico defeat in October, temporarily widens the gap to Real Madrid, who play Athletic Club in Bilbao on Wednesday. However, the night ended with concern for the Catalans as Olmo suffered a shoulder injury while scoring his goal.
