Troost-Ekong receives MFR certificate, hails national honour as ‘Proud Moment’
Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has confirmed receipt of his national honour certificate following his conferment with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), Sport360NG reports.
The Nigeria international disclosed that the official document was delivered to him on Tuesday, a day after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the list of recipients of national honours.
Reacting to the recognition, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to the President, describing the award as a significant and emotional milestone for himself and his family.
He said he felt deeply honoured by the gesture, noting that the acknowledgement represents a moment of pride and fulfilment.
The former Watford defender also reflected on the impact of representing Nigeria on his personal and professional journey, stressing that the country gave him a sense of identity and purpose, as well as the platform to fulfil his ambition through football.
Troost-Ekong added that wearing the green and white of the Super Eagles has always carried a strong sense of responsibility and privilege, motivating him to give his utmost commitment whenever he represented the nation.
The centre-back, who captained Nigeria to a runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, also sent his best wishes to the Super Eagles as they begin their AFCON campaign.
He pledged his continued support for the team, expressing confidence in the players and belief in what Nigeria can achieve.
Troost-Ekong concluded by reaffirming his enduring pride in representing the country, stating that he will always remain proud to be Nigerian.
