Manchester United cruise past Bournemouth 4-1 in Summer Series clash
Manchester United maintained their perfect start to the Premier League Summer Series with a comfortable 4–1 win over Bournemouth in pre-season action at a rain-soaked Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday, Sport360NG reports.
Ruben Amorim’s side followed up their opening 2–1 win over West Ham with a dominant display, securing victory through goals from Rasmus Højlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo, and teenage substitute Ethan Williams.
United set the tone early, with Højlund opening the scoring in the 8th minute. The Danish striker met a superb delivery from Dorgu with a well-placed header that left Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic with no chance.
Dorgu then turned scorer midway through the first half, collecting a quick, lofted free-kick from Mason Mount before powering into the box and slotting home to double United’s lead.
Diallo made it 3–0 shortly after the break, capitalising on a loose ball in the area. Amorim later rang the changes, introducing nine substitutes with 20 minutes remaining.
One of those replacements, 18-year-old Williams, wasted no time making an impression, curling a composed finish into the bottom corner just two minutes after coming on.
Bournemouth did pull one back late on, courtesy of a Matthijs de Ligt own goal in the 88th minute, United’s only blemish on an otherwise commanding performance.
In the day’s other Premier League friendly in Chicago, West Ham came from behind to defeat Everton 2–1 in a reunion with former manager David Moyes.
Everton had taken the lead through Idrissa Gueye after 17 minutes, but West Ham hit back through Lucas Paquetá just before the break. Niclas Füllkrug sealed the turnaround in the 64th minute with a crisp finish.
The result compounds Everton’s pre-season woes following a 3–0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend.
“We knew it would be difficult coming here,” Moyes said post-match. “We don’t have the players we need right now, and we’re not ready to compete at this level or start the Premier League season.”
The Premier League Summer Series concludes on Sunday in Atlanta, where Manchester United face Everton and West Ham meet Bournemouth.
