Arsenal Hope for Quick Havertz Return After Knee Surgery Decision
Arsenal have confirmed that Kai Havertz will undergo surgery on a knee problem, though the German forward is not anticipated to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Sport360NG reports.
The 26-year-old made a substitute appearance in the Gunners’ opening-day win over Manchester United but was absent for the 5-0 victory against Leeds after the issue flared up.
Manager Mikel Arteta admitted ahead of the Leeds clash that the club needed more time to assess the extent of the injury, with surgery ultimately deemed necessary. Hopes remain, however, that Havertz’s recovery will be measured in weeks rather than months.
The news eases concerns for Arteta, who is already dealing with a mounting injury list. Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Christian Norgaard, Ben White and Gabriel Jesus are all currently unavailable.
Summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has stepped up in attack, scoring twice against Leeds, while Arsenal have also moved to bolster their options with the £60m addition of England international Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old has already joined full training with his new teammates.
Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday to face champions Liverpool, with both clubs looking to maintain their perfect starts to the new Premier League campaign.
