Fresh divisions have surfaced within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the contentious ruling by its Disciplinary Committee over incidents that occurred during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal, Sport360NG reports.

The decision has triggered mounting pressure on the continental body, with several stakeholders questioning the legality of the process and alleging that the ruling was reached outside the framework of CAF’s statutes. The controversy has intensified criticism across the African football landscape, raising concerns about governance and disciplinary consistency.

Addressing the backlash, the CAF President expressed strong disapproval of what he termed the “unacceptable events” that overshadowed the AFCON Morocco 2025 final. While reiterating his respect for the independence and authority of CAF’s judicial bodies, he acknowledged the widespread concerns voiced by fans, officials, and other football stakeholders.

In response to the escalating situation, the CAF President has convened an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee. According to sources within the Confederation, the session will centre on a comprehensive review of CAF’s regulatory framework and disciplinary code.

The move is aimed at introducing more robust and deterrent sanctions against conduct that undermines the integrity and reputation of African football, as CAF works to rebuild trust and reinforce confidence in its disciplinary mechanisms.
