Trump to Attend Club World Cup Final as FIFA Opens New Office in Trump Tower

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to attend the FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, as America strengthens its involvement in global football.

The confirmation comes alongside FIFA’s decision to establish a new office within Trump Tower in New York, a move that underscores the organization’s growing footprint in the United States. This year’s edition marks the debut of the expanded Club World Cup format, with the U.S. serving as the host. The nation is also gearing up to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada and Mexico.

The final will feature Chelsea facing the winner of the semi-final clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, taking place at the same venue scheduled to host the 2026 World Cup final.

President Trump, who previously attended the Super Bowl earlier this year, is currently leading a White House taskforce overseeing preparations for both the Club World Cup and the upcoming World Cup.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino commended the U.S. government’s active participation, stating, “We’ve received significant support from the government and the president through the White House taskforce. Their backing is vital for both this year’s Club World Cup and next year’s World Cup.”

He added that FIFA’s global reach requires a local presence, highlighting New York as a strategic hub. “To be truly global, you must be local—and New York is essential to that mission,” Infantino said.

FIFA already operates an office in Miami, and the new Trump Tower location is expected to enhance cooperation with American authorities and strengthen the organization’s U.S. operations.

Despite criticism surrounding Trump’s immigration policies—including a travel ban affecting over a dozen countries and potential plans to expand restrictions to more than 30 others—Infantino reassured fans worldwide that the U.S. will remain an open destination. “FIFA is global, and fans from around the world will be welcomed in the United States,” he said.

Since beginning his second term, Trump has increased his visibility in the sports arena. He became the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl and announced that Washington D.C. will host the 2027 NFL Draft. He has also attended multiple UFC events, including a recent one in New Jersey, and revealed plans for the White House to host a UFC event within the next year.
