Cazorla Extends Real Oviedo Stay After Securing La Liga Return
Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla has signed a one-year contract extension with Real Oviedo, the club confirmed on Saturday.
The 39-year-old, who will turn 41 in December, rejoined his hometown side in August 2023 and played a pivotal role in their historic promotion to La Liga — their first return to Spain’s top division in 24 years.
A product of Oviedo’s youth academy, Cazorla’s homecoming was marked by both sentiment and substance, as his leadership and experience proved vital during the campaign.
Cazorla, a two-time European Championship winner with Spain (2008 and 2012), also enjoyed a successful spell with Arsenal in the Premier League, where he won two FA Cups.
In a club statement, Oviedo hailed Cazorla as a “symbol and emblem,” adding: “With this renewal, Santi Cazorla shows that dreams pursued with heart do come true. The club retains the leadership of a player who embodies its values both on and off the pitch.”
