Key Records broken by Diogo Jota
Before his tragic passing, Diogo Jota had etched his name into Liverpool’s history books with a string of remarkable achievements that underscored his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most efficient and versatile attackers.
In January 2025, Jota equaled a long-standing record for the fastest goal by a Liverpool substitute in a Premier League match, finding the net just 21 seconds after coming on against Nottingham Forest. It was the quickest goal scored by a Liverpool sub since detailed stats began in the 2006/07 season.
He also had the distinction of ushering in a new managerial era, scoring the first goal under head coach Arne Slot—setting the tone for what many hoped would be a promising chapter for the Reds.
Jota’s impact was immediate and historic when he joined the club in 2020. He became the first player in Liverpool’s history to score in each of his first four Premier League appearances at Anfield.
A landmark moment in the club’s history also came through Jota’s boots. In October 2020, he scored Liverpool’s 10,000th goal across all competitions in a Champions League encounter with Midtjylland.
He was also a rare kind of finisher—one of only a handful of players, alongside Erling Haaland and Ollie Watkins, to have scored 10 or more Premier League goals with each foot and his head.
When it came to efficiency in front of goal, Jota stood above even some of the club’s most celebrated strikers. With a Premier League shot conversion rate of 19.3%, he surpassed the likes of Mohamed Salah and Luis Suárez as the most clinical finisher in recent Liverpool history.
Coming off the bench was another area where Jota shone. His knack for scoring late goals saw him rise into Liverpool’s top five all-time substitute scorers, overtaking names like Ryan Babel and Divock Origi.
One of his vital contributions came in a 64-game unbeaten home run in the league—an effort aided by his first-half header against Leicester City that helped preserve the club’s formidable streak at Anfield.
Financially, his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of the 2020/21 campaign also placed him high on Liverpool’s investment list. At €44.7 million, he ranks as the club’s 11th most expensive signing of all time.
Though his life was cut short, Diogo Jota’s legacy is permanently etched in Liverpool folklore—defined by records, key moments, and an enduring impact on the pitch.
