Axel Tuanzebe Sues Manchester United Over Alleged Medical Negligence

Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has launched legal action against his old club, claiming they provided negligent medical advice during his time at Old Trafford.

Tuanzebe, who recently signed with Burnley, filed a lawsuit with the High Court last week. The case reportedly concerns an unspecified injury dating back to July 2022 and is said to be worth in excess of £1 million.

The 27-year-old spent a significant portion of his final season sidelined — missing 195 days through injury — before being loaned out to Stoke City in January 2023, where he featured in just five matches.

A product of United’s youth academy, Tuanzebe joined the club at the age of eight and made his senior debut in 2017. He went on to make 37 first-team appearances and captained the side at various youth levels. His final outing came in the 2021 Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, where he converted his penalty in the dramatic 11-10 shootout loss.

Following his departure in the summer of 2023, Tuanzebe joined Ipswich Town on a free transfer in September. Over the years, he had loan spells with Aston Villa on three separate occasions and also briefly played for Napoli in 2022.

Now representing the Democratic Republic of Congo at international level, the former England U-21 star is seeking damages he believes resulted from poor medical handling during his time at Manchester United.

Both Tuanzebe’s legal team, Simons Muirhead Burton, and Manchester United have declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Sport agents.
