Terem Moffi Opens Ligue 1 Account as Nice Beat Auxerre
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi netted his first goal of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season as Nice claimed a 3-1 victory over Auxerre at the Allianz Riviera on Saturday, Sport360NG reports.
The 26-year-old, who spent much of last season sidelined with a serious knee injury, made an instant impact after coming off the bench. Introduced in the 73rd minute, Moffi needed only three minutes to make his mark, rising highest to head in Tom Louchet’s cross after Auxerre goalkeeper Leon Donovan failed to deal with the delivery. The strike sealed Nice’s first win of the campaign.
Earlier, Jeremie Boga had given the hosts the perfect start with a superb finish inside three minutes, but Lassine Sinayoko quickly levelled for Auxerre midway through the first half. Nice restored their lead moments later when defender Clement Akpa diverted the ball into his own net, before Auxerre’s problems deepened when goalkeeper Donovan was sent off in first-half stoppage time.
The dismissal forced Super Eagles defender Gabriel Osho to make way for reserve goalkeeper Theo De Percin, leaving the visitors with an uphill task. With a man advantage, Nice pressed for a third and eventually found it through Moffi, whose goal was confirmed after a brief VAR review.
For Moffi, the moment marked a personal milestone following his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus damage that kept him out for 243 days. He had previously described the lay-off as one of the toughest spells of his career.
The Nigerian forward has also been included in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa. Before the international break, he will be aiming to build on his confidence when Nice travel to Le Havre.
