Cardiff City Complete Signing of Gabriel Osho from Auxerre

Cardiff City have secured the services of defender Gabriel Osho, who joins from French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, Sport360NG reports.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who previously played for Luton Town, is only the second addition to the League One leaders’ squad this summer. Osho featured in Luton’s promotion-winning side of the 2022/23 season and made 21 Premier League appearances, scoring twice, before moving to France in July 2024.

Osho also spent time on loan at Rochdale during his tenure at Luton, where he first worked with Brian Barry-Murphy. The defender cited the newly appointed Cardiff manager as a key factor in his decision to join the club.

“It’s been a long time in the works, so to finally be here at the stadium and in the city has been good. I’m buzzing to get going,” Osho told the club’s official website.
“Brian played a big part. It’s always important when the player has a good relationship with the manager. I had a really good time at Rochdale, and the connection I built with Brian and the staff there was pretty amazing.”

During his single season at Auxerre, Osho made 20 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring once and receiving a red card. He started both of Auxerre’s opening fixtures this season against Lorient and Nice.

Osho began his career at hometown club Reading, with loan spells at Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town, and he has earned two caps for Nigeria.

Since Barry-Murphy’s appointment in June, Cardiff’s only other signing has been Copenhagen goalkeeper Nathan Trott, who joined on loan. Meanwhile, the club has seen 11 senior players depart following last season’s relegation from the Championship.
