Everton complete £35m move for Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling
Everton have secured the signing of highly-rated midfielder Tyler Dibling from Southampton in a deal worth an initial £35m, with a further £5m in potential add-ons, Sport360NG reports.
The 19-year-old has committed to a four-year contract at Goodison Park, tying him to the club until the summer of 2029. He becomes David Moyes’ eighth new arrival of the current transfer window as the Everton manager continues to reshape his squad.
Dibling, capped twice by England at Under-21 level, described the move as a natural fit.
“With the new stadium, the fans, and the family atmosphere around the club, it felt like the perfect match,” he told Everton’s website. “The chance to work under the manager played a huge part too. He’s developed players in my position before, and I know he can help me take the next step.”
The attacking midfielder, who will wear the No.20 shirt, broke into Southampton’s first team as a 17-year-old in August 2023. He made 44 appearances for the Saints, scoring four times, often operating either as a right-sided winger cutting in on his left foot or in a central attacking role.
Moyes said Everton were investing in a player with both talent and potential:
“Tyler strengthens our attacking options, and we will give him everything he needs to keep improving. He’s a gifted young English player and we believe he can play an important role in building a side our supporters can enjoy and be proud of.”
Former Everton and Southampton winger Theo Walcott welcomed the deal, suggesting Dibling could flourish at the Toffees’ new stadium.
“It’s a really good move,” Walcott said on BBC Radio’s Monday Night Club. “He worked tirelessly in a struggling Southampton side, and at Everton the expectations will be different. But if he keeps that work ethic, he’ll thrive.”
Analysis: A bargain or an overhyped prospect?
Back in the first half of his debut Premier League season, Dibling was talked up as a generational talent and linked with nine-figure moves to England’s elite clubs. Seven months later, Everton have snapped him up for less than half of that.
Part of the reduced fee reflects his contract situation, with only two years left on his Southampton deal. His dip in form after December also played a role, coinciding with Russell Martin’s dismissal and the shift to more defensive systems under Ivan Juric and Simon Rusk, approaches that limited his attacking output.
Dibling ended last season with just two Premier League goals and no assists, but his early promise suggests the ceiling remains high. His former manager Martin once said the teenager “needs the right style and environment to thrive” something Everton hope they can now provide.
