Newcastle see £50m bid for Strand Larsen rejected by Wolves
Newcastle United have had a £50m offer for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen turned down as their search for a new centre-forward continues, Sport360NG reports.
Eddie Howe’s side are in the market for attacking reinforcements following Callum Wilson’s departure at the end of his contract last month. However, Wolves remain firm on keeping Strand Larsen, who joined them permanently for £23m earlier this summer after a productive loan spell in which he scored 14 goals.
The Magpies had already seen two approaches for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa rejected, with the London club now confident the DR Congo international will remain. Newcastle then switched their attention to Strand Larsen, but Wolves are unwilling to part with the Norway international so close to the transfer deadline on 1 September.
“He is a very important player for us,” manager Vitor Pereira said. “I haven’t spoken with him about it. He is committed, he works hard in training, and he wants to win.” Pereira is already contending with the loss of Matheus Cunha, who left for Manchester United earlier in the window.
Newcastle’s striking options remain limited. Anthony Gordon led the line against Liverpool on Monday, with Alexander Isak unavailable after asking to join the champions. The Sweden international is training separately, though Newcastle insist their valuation must be met before any sale is considered.
The Magpies’ attempts to land a forward have so far been frustrated. Hugo Ekitike opted for Liverpool, Benjamin Sesko joined Manchester United, and Joao Pedro left Brighton for Chelsea. With less than a week remaining in the transfer window, Newcastle face mounting pressure to secure at least one new striker before deadline day.
