Chelsea strike agreement for Nicolas Jackson’s Bayern Munich move

Chelsea have finalised an improved deal with Bayern Munich for striker Nicolas Jackson, bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga, Sport360NG reports.

The 24-year-old Senegal international will initially join the Bundesliga champions on loan for £14.3m (€16.5m), with the agreement including a compulsory purchase clause worth £56.2m (€65m) once he meets a set number of appearances. The overall package now exceeds £70m, slightly higher than the original terms.

Jackson has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Bayern. His future briefly looked uncertain when Chelsea recalled him following Liam Delap’s injury during Saturday’s Premier League win over Fulham.

Signed from Villarreal for £32m in 2023, Jackson scored 30 goals in 81 appearances for Chelsea. However, his time at Stamford Bridge was marred by two red cards last season, one in the Premier League and another in the Club World Cup against Flamengo, incidents that saw manager Enzo Maresca lose confidence in him despite previously describing the striker as his “perfect number nine.”

Jackson could make his Bayern debut against his parent club on 17 September in the Champions League, with UEFA rules permitting loanees to play against their owners.

Chelsea bolster squad with Buonanotte loan

To address their attacking needs, Chelsea have brought in Argentina international Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton on a season-long loan, paying a £2m fee. The 20-year-old, who was close to joining Leeds United, spent last season on loan at Leicester City, where he registered six goals and three assists in 35 appearances.

Chelsea’s recruitment team, including Paul Winstanley and Sam Jewell, who both worked at Brighton, were key in securing the deal. Buonanotte joins Alejandro Garnacho, signed earlier in the summer from Manchester United for £40m, as part of Maresca’s Argentina-led rebuild.

Replacing Delap

Delap’s injury, expected to keep him out for six to eight weeks, forced Chelsea to rethink their transfer strategy. The club had explored moves for Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez and Sporting’s Conrad Harder but failed to secure either. Instead, they recalled 19-year-old Spain striker Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland, where he had made three appearances and scored once.

Meanwhile, Brighton forward Julio Enciso, 21, is close to completing a £13.8m switch to Chelsea’s partner club Strasbourg, with plans in place for him to eventually join the Blues’ first-team squad.
