Fabio Paratici returns to Tottenham as joint sporting director after FIFA ban
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the return of Fabio Paratici as joint sporting director, marking his comeback two-and-a-half years after being suspended by FIFA, Sport360NG reports.
The 53-year-old Italian will share the role with Johan Lange, overseeing the club’s men’s football operations, including player development, scouting, and recruitment.
Paratici originally stepped down in April 2023 following the rejection of his appeal against a 30-month worldwide ban for financial misconduct relating to his time at Juventus.
Before joining Spurs in 2021, Paratici served as sporting director and later managing director at Juventus, who were penalised with a 10-point deduction in Serie A after being found guilty of false accounting.
In September, a court in Rome approved a plea bargain agreement involving Paratici and several former Juventus officials, sparing him an 18-month prison term. Under Italian law, such deals do not constitute an admission of guilt.
“I’m delighted to be returning to a club that I love,” Paratici said in a statement. “I’ve been working closely with Johan, Vinai [Venkatesham] and Thomas [Frank] in a consultancy capacity for several months, and I’m now looking forward to being back in London and resuming my work full-time.
“I believe that together with Johan, we can build something truly special for this club and its supporters.”
Tottenham also announced plans to appoint a director of football operations to complete their leadership structure. Until that appointment is made, the club’s women’s football programme will continue under the supervision of Vinai Venkatesham.
Paratici’s Return Seen as a Boost for Spurs
Paratici’s official comeback had long been expected, following months of behind-the-scenes involvement with the club during his suspension. Widely regarded as one of Europe’s top sporting directors, his influence and vast network have continued to benefit Tottenham in a consultancy role.
BBC Sport reported earlier this year that discussions over his return had progressed steadily, despite summer interest from AC Milan. His reinstatement also comes shortly after the departure of former executive chairman Daniel Levy, highlighting the new ownership’s faith in Paratici’s expertise.
Known for his extensive industry connections and strong record in recruitment, Paratici’s partnership with Lange is expected to shape Tottenham’s transfer strategy in the coming seasons.
