Super Eagles touch down in Marrakesh ahead of AFCON quarter-final showdown with Algeria
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakesh as preparations intensify for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria, Sport360NG reports.
The encounter represents a major test for the Nigerian side as they look to sustain their impressive form and keep alive ambitions of securing a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title.
A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday by photojournalist Sulaimon Adebayo, popularly known as Pooja, showed the Super Eagles receiving a warm welcome from locals upon their arrival in Marrakesh.
Nigeria are targeting a place in the semi-finals following a commanding performance in the Round of 16. The three-time continental champions booked their quarter-final berth with an emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in Fès, maintaining a perfect record at the tournament.
Off the pitch, preparations for the high-stakes clash were briefly overshadowed by concerns over unpaid bonuses, with reports suggesting possible player unrest. However, those issues appear to have been resolved after the National Sports Commission confirmed that all outstanding allowances and match bonuses have been approved and are currently being disbursed.
With the financial uncertainty eased, the Super Eagles can now turn their full attention to Saturday’s crucial test as they bid to continue their title charge in Morocco.
