Van Dijk backs Salah for fitting Anfield farewell amid injury concerns

Virgil van Dijk has expressed confidence that Mohamed Salah will receive a memorable send-off at Liverpool FC, even if injury rules the Egyptian out for the remainder of the season, Sport360NG reports.

Salah, who is set to depart Anfield after nine distinguished years, was substituted during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday with what is believed to be a hamstring problem.

The club is awaiting medical results to confirm the severity of the injury. However, with only four fixtures left in the campaign, there are growing concerns that the 33-year-old may have already played his final match for the Reds.

Van Dijk acknowledged the emotional weight of the situation, particularly given the limited number of home games remaining in Salah’s Liverpool career.

He stressed that, regardless of the injury setback, the forward’s contribution to the club will be properly recognised.

The Dutch defender also hinted at Salah’s resilience, noting his reputation for quick recovery, while maintaining that the immediate focus should remain on his rehabilitation rather than future ceremonies.

Since arriving at Liverpool in 2017, Salah has established himself as one of the club’s all-time greats, scoring 257 goals in 440 appearances. Only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt have found the net more times for the Merseyside club.

His impact has been central to Liverpool’s resurgence on both domestic and European fronts, playing a key role in their UEFA Champions League triumph and two Premier League title successes.

Individually, Salah has enjoyed remarkable recognition, claiming the players’ player of the year award on three occasions and finishing as the league’s top scorer four times, underlining his enduring influence at the highest level.
