Shooting Stars Sack Ogunbote, Entire Management Team After Disappointing Season

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have terminated the contracts of head coach Gbenga Ogunbote, the entire coaching crew, and the club’s management staff following an underwhelming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, Sport360NG reports.

The Oluyole Warriors ended the 2024/25 season in eighth place, registering 15 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses across 38 matches, a performance the club’s leadership deemed below expectations. The decision to restructure the technical and administrative setup was confirmed by insiders at the club, with chairman Lekan Salami reportedly driving the overhaul.

Ogunbote’s latest stint with Shooting Stars, his third overall, began in August 2022 and spanned nearly three years. Also shown the exit door is former club winger and general manager Dimeji Lawal, who had held the executive role since 2020.

Amid the sweeping changes, speculation is growing that former Shooting Stars boss Edith Agoye could be brought back to take charge ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Ogunbote may not be without a job for long. Reports suggest he remains a leading candidate to take over at Kano Pillars, despite having previously declined their approach earlier in the transfer window, opting to honor his contract with 3SC. With his departure now confirmed, discussions with the Kano-based club are expected to resume and could lead to an appointment in the coming weeks.
