Thomas Muller Joins Vancouver Whitecaps for Remainder of 2025 MLS Season
Veteran forward Thomas Muller has signed with Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, marking the next chapter in his illustrious career following his departure from Bayern Munich, Sport360NG reports.
The 35-year-old ended a remarkable 25-year tenure with the Bundesliga giants at the close of last season after his contract expired. He now makes the move to North America, where he will bolster the Whitecaps squad for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
The agreement includes an option for Vancouver to register Muller as a designated player (DP) for the 2026 season, a status that allows clubs to sign high-profile talent without the player’s salary fully counting against the league’s salary cap.
To secure his rights, the Whitecaps negotiated with FC Cincinnati, sending $200,000 (£149,000) in 2025 general allocation money (GAM), an additional $100,000 (£75,000) in 2026 GAM, and a potential further $100,000 in conditional 2026 GAM.
Muller will officially be added to the roster once his international transfer certificate, visa, and work permit are approved.
“I’m excited to come to Vancouver and help this team push for a title,” Muller said. “I’ve heard amazing things about the city, but my focus is on winning. After positive talks with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, I’m ready to get started and play in front of the supporters at BC Place as we aim for the playoffs.”
A product of Bayern’s youth system since 2000, Muller became one of the most decorated players in club history, claiming 13 Bundesliga crowns and two UEFA Champions League titles. Internationally, he earned 131 caps for Germany, netting 45 goals and playing a pivotal role in their 2014 World Cup triumph. He also won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Vancouver currently sit second in the Western Conference, trailing leaders San Diego by a single point with 10 regular season fixtures remaining.
