Ipswich Town have bolstered their attacking options with the arrival of Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom on a season-long loan from Dutch side Ajax, Sport360NG reports.

The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at French Ligue 1 club Lille, where he gained valuable UEFA Champions League experience. His wealth of knowledge from spells in England, the Netherlands, and France is expected to be key as Kieran McKenna’s side targets promotion to the Premier League in the 2025/26 campaign.

A product of Arsenal’s youth system, Akpom has previously turned out for Middlesbrough, Brighton, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest during a well-travelled career. His deal with Ipswich includes an obligation to buy for around £7m should the club secure a top-flight return next summer.

Speaking to Town TV after his unveiling, Akpom expressed his enthusiasm for the move.

“I was really excited when I heard about the interest and I’m delighted to join a club with big ambitions,” he said. “I’ve always felt Ipswich’s style would suit me, so it’s a perfect fit. Playing for Ajax and in the Champions League with Lille has helped me grow, and I’m ready to bring that experience and a winning mentality to the team.”

Akpom becomes the Tractor Boys’ sixth signing of the summer and could make his debut in Tuesday’s League Cup tie against Bromley.
