Ligue 1 to Launch Own Broadcast Channel After Terminating DAZN Deal

The French professional football league (LFP) has announced plans to launch its own television and digital platform dedicated to Ligue 1 matches for the upcoming season. This move comes after clubs voted to terminate the league’s broadcasting agreement with streaming service DAZN.

The decision was confirmed following a joint meeting involving club presidents, the LFP board, and representatives of its commercial arm, LFP Media. The newly created channel will broadcast eight out of the nine weekly Ligue 1 fixtures, while Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports will retain rights to air the remaining match.

The agreement with DAZN, signed in July 2024 just ahead of the 2024–25 campaign, promised Ligue 1 clubs around €400 million per year. However, relations between the league and the streaming platform deteriorated, prompting clubs in April to overwhelmingly support ending the contract.

Even with additional international broadcast agreements, Ligue 1’s overall media revenue has fallen well short of its €1 billion annual target. Last season’s figures marked a decline from previous domestic TV deals and underscored the league’s widening financial gap with Europe’s top competitions. For comparison, the Premier League’s upcoming domestic rights package is worth €2.02 billion per season over the next four years.
