Manchester City will check on the fitness of striker Omar Marmoush ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby after the Egyptian picked up a knee injury on international duty, Sport360NG reports.

The 26-year-old was forced off just nine minutes into Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, a game that ended 0-0.

Marmoush, who moved to City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m in January, sustained the knock following a heavy challenge in the opening stages. Although he briefly continued after receiving treatment, he was soon replaced by Osama Faisal.

The Egyptian Football Association later confirmed the forward had suffered bruising to his knee ligaments and would undergo scans on Wednesday morning in Cairo. A photograph of Marmoush being helped from the field by medics was also shared on their X account.

City’s medical team will carry out their own assessment when Marmoush returns to Manchester. He has made 28 appearances and scored eight times for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, starting the last two Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Brighton.

The champions welcome rivals Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday at 16:30 BST.
