Former Arsenal Star Thomas Partey Charged with Multiple Sexual Offences
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with multiple sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed in a statement released on Friday.
According to the BBC, the CPS authorised the charges after reviewing a file of evidence submitted by police investigators.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives. The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault,” the statement read.
The alleged incidents are reported to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially expired on Monday, days before the charges were announced.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the investigation, reiterated that supporting those affected is a top priority.
“Our focus remains on providing support to the women who have come forward,” he said. “We encourage anyone impacted by this case, or who may have relevant information, to contact our team.”
Those wishing to assist the investigation can reach detectives via email at CIT@met.police.uk.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
