City move closer to Arsenal as Haaland reaches 100 premier league goals

Erling Haaland became the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 100 goals as Manchester City held off a spirited Fulham fightback to keep pressure on leaders Arsenal, Sport360NG reports.

The Norwegian striker hit the milestone in the 17th minute at Craven Cottage, guiding home Jeremy Doku’s low cross with a first-time finish. Haaland reached the century mark in just 111 league appearances, comfortably surpassing Alan Shearer’s previous record of 124 matches.

The landmark strike also ended a brief three-game scoring drought, with Haaland moving to 15 goals in 14 Premier League outings this season. It proved only the start of a decisive performance from the City forward.

Haaland later turned provider, threading a pass through for Tijjani Reijnders, who deftly lifted the ball over Bernd Leno to double City’s lead. After seeing Leeds overturn a two-goal deficit at the weekend, City looked determined to avoid a repeat, and Phil Foden’s sharp finish for the third appeared to settle any nerves.

However, Emile Smith Rowe’s well-directed header quickly pulled one back for Fulham, only for Foden to strike again early in the second half after another Haaland assist. Doku’s effort deflected off Sander Berge to make it 5-1 and seemingly put the contest beyond doubt.

Fulham refused to fold. Alex Iwobi curled in a superb long-range effort before substitute Samuel Chukwueze reignited belief with two well-taken goals in quick succession. The hosts pushed for an extraordinary equaliser, and Josh King saw a late effort cleared off the line as City clung on.

The victory moves Pep Guardiola’s side to within two points of Arsenal, though they have played one game more. The Gunners can re-establish a five-point advantage when they host Brentford on Wednesday. Fulham, meanwhile, sit six points above the relegation zone, having also played a game more than their nearest rivals.

City’s attacking fluency shines, but defensive issues persist

While Haaland’s record-breaking moment will dominate the headlines, the match showcased both the brilliance and vulnerability of Guardiola’s team. City scored with their first four shots on target, underlining their ruthless efficiency in attack. Haaland and Foden were in irresistible form, with the Norwegian twice hitting the woodwork.

Yet defensive lapses once again threatened to undermine their dominance. City have now conceded 16 goals in 14 league matches, more than double Arsenal’s tally at the same stage, an area that will require tightening if they are to sustain their title challenge.

Fulham defeated but far from discouraged

Despite extending their long winless run against City, Fulham emerged with credit after nearly completing one of the Premier League’s most remarkable comebacks.

Chukwueze’s introduction transformed the pace and intent of their attack, and the home supporters responded with a rousing atmosphere as the team pushed forward relentlessly. Having scored six goals across matches against Tottenham and City, Fulham will take optimism from their recent performances even as they continue to look over their shoulder in the table.
