Ahmed Musa Denies Viral Claims of Lavish Car Gifts to Kano Pillars Squad
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has debunked viral social media reports alleging that he gifted luxury vehicles to players and officials of Kano Pillars following his recent appointment as the club’s general manager.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Musa described the rumours as baseless and misleading, urging the public and media outlets to verify information before sharing it.
The widely circulated claims suggested that the 31-year-old had distributed brand-new Toyota Land Cruisers to team members and coaching staff as a grand gesture to mark his executive return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side. However, Musa was quick to refute the reports.
“It has come to my attention that false information is being circulated claiming that I distributed cars to players and officials following my appointment as general manager of Kano Pillars Football Club,” he wrote.
“This claim is entirely untrue. I urge the public, media outlets, and individuals on social media to verify information from credible sources before sharing. Spreading unverified news not only misleads the public but also undermines the integrity of the club and its leadership.”
Musa reiterated his commitment to the club’s revival, stating, “Our focus remains on building a strong, disciplined, and successful team. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
A fact-check by Sport360NG revealed that the images of Land Cruiser jeeps circulating alongside the false reports were originally from a different event. The vehicles were part of a March 2024 donation by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris to members of the state’s House of Assembly — unrelated to Musa or Kano Pillars.
Despite the online controversy, Musa was seen training with the team on Tuesday, maintaining his dual role as both a player and an administrator.
The former Leicester City and Al Nassr forward was formally unveiled as general manager of Kano Pillars by the Kano State Government on Saturday, July 5. During his inaugural meeting with the club’s board on Monday, he expressed determination to restore the club’s former glory.
“Kano Pillars is our club and one of the most successful in Nigeria, but in recent years, the story has changed,” Musa told board members during the session.
“I want to assure everyone here that, with your support and the backing of the board, I will do everything possible to reposition the club and make it one of the finest not only in Africa but globally. Having played here and with the experience I gained in Europe, I believe I can contribute meaningfully to help the club achieve its full potential.”
He stressed the importance of unity, strategic planning, and collective dedication as the club embarks on a new chapter under his leadership.
