Five-Man Exclusion as Manchester United Name Squad for Leeds Clash
Manchester United will be without five senior players for Saturday’s pre-season clash with Leeds United in Stockholm, as the club continues efforts to offload the group this summer.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been instructed to remain at Carrington for training while their futures are resolved. Meanwhile, new recruits Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon have both been included in the 29-man squad that travelled to Sweden.
Cunha, who joined United from Wolves in a £62.5m move, is expected to make his first appearance in a United shirt against newly promoted Leeds, managed by Daniel Farke.
United head coach Ruben Amorim has selected a largely full-strength squad, with only three senior players missing due to injury – Joshua Zirkzee, André Onana, and Lisandro Martínez.
Young full-back Harry Amass, however, has not been included in the travelling party. The 18-year-old is set for a loan move in order to gain regular first-team experience this season.
Amorim has brought along several promising academy players, with the likes of Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson, Jack Fletcher – son of club legend Darren Fletcher – and winger Ethan Williams all making the trip. Other youth prospects on the tour include Sekou Kone, Godwill Kukonki, Reece Munro, and Bendito Mantato.
United are due to depart for the United States on Tuesday for a three-game pre-season tour, and that trip could feature another fresh face. Brentford have reportedly accepted a £65m offer from United for Bryan Mbeumo, and the Cameroon international could complete a medical before the team heads across the Atlantic.

Amass Set for Loan Spell to Continue Development
Despite a promising breakthrough last season, Harry Amass is poised to leave Manchester United on loan in search of consistent senior minutes.
The teenager featured seven times for the first team under Amorim, including four Premier League starts, and took part in both matches during United’s post-season trip to Asia. Notably, he earned praise last summer for a standout display against Mohamed Salah in South Carolina.
However, under former manager Erik ten Hag, Amass was often overlooked due to concerns over his physicality in top-flight competition – even amid a defensive injury crisis.
The arrival of Paraguayan youth international Diego Leon has further crowded the left-back position, prompting the decision to send Amass out temporarily. Club officials remain confident in his long-term potential and believe a loan is the best route for his progression.
Several clubs have expressed interest in the England youth international, although a deal has not yet been finalised.
