Newcastle Reject Liverpool’s Opening £110m Bid for Isak
Newcastle United have turned down Liverpool’s opening offer for Swedish striker Alexander Isak, according to reports on Friday, Sport360NG reports.
The Premier League champions tabled a bid believed to be in the region of £110 million, including add-ons, as they seek to bring the 25-year-old to Anfield. However, the Magpies are holding out for a fee closer to £150 million and are determined to retain their top scorer.
Isak has been training away from the Newcastle squad and was recently spotted at his former club, Real Sociedad, where he is said to be working with personal trainers. His absence from the club’s pre-season tour in Asia was attributed to a thigh injury, though reports suggest he has expressed a desire to leave this summer.
Having signed from Real Sociedad for £60 million in 2022, Isak enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign, netting 23 league goals to help Newcastle secure a Champions League return. Despite having three years left on his current deal, the forward is reportedly pushing for a move, turning down the possibility of a new contract that would include a release clause for next year.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, keen to strengthen his attack ahead of the new season, has already secured the signings of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The addition of Isak would further enhance the Reds’ frontline as they aim to defend their Premier League crown and achieve back-to-back titles for the first time since the 1980s.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe remains hopeful of keeping Isak, stating earlier this week: “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.”
Liverpool’s summer spending has already surpassed £250 million, with Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giorgi Mamardashvili also arriving at Anfield alongside Wirtz and Ekitike.
