Barcelona Duo Yamal and Lewandowski Fined by UEFA Over Anti-Doping Breach
Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have been fined by UEFA for violating post-match anti-doping protocols following their Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter Milan, Sport360NG reports.
UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body confirmed on Friday that the pair failed to head directly to the doping control station at the San Siro, as stipulated by tournament regulations. Each player received a €5,000 fine for the procedural breach, which, according to Spanish outlets Marca and AS, did not involve a failed drug test.
The incident came after Barcelona’s 3–0 loss in Milan, a result that confirmed their exit from the competition.
Head coach Hansi Flick and his assistant Marcus Sorg were also punished, receiving €20,000 fines and one-match suspensions apiece for misconduct and violating UEFA’s general code of conduct. Both were deemed to have behaved inappropriately during and after the match.
In addition, the club was ordered to pay €7,750, €5,250 for objects thrown onto the pitch and €2,500 for fireworks set off by fans during the semi-final clash.
UEFA stated that the penalties take effect immediately, with the suspensions to be served in the team’s next European fixture.
