Nigeria will take on Portugal and Poland in a pair of high-profile international friendlies this June as part of their build-up to upcoming competitions, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed, Sport360NG reports.

The Super Eagles head into the fixtures on the back of a mixed outing in Antalya, Turkey, where they secured a 2-1 victory over Iran before playing out a 2-2 draw against Jordan.

According to details released by the NFF on Thursday, Nigeria will first face Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw on June 3. The team will then travel to Portugal for a second friendly on June 10, with the venue yet to be finalised. The arrangements were confirmed by the federation’s FIFA match agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport.

Portugal have also acknowledged the fixture, describing the encounter as their final test before departing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The Portuguese Football Federation noted that the match will serve as a crucial preparatory fixture ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The meeting will mark only the second time both nations will face each other at senior level. Their previous encounter came in November 2022, when Portugal recorded a commanding 4-0 victory in Lisbon, with goals from Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário.

Portugal’s decision to schedule Nigeria is understood to be influenced by their World Cup preparations, particularly following the qualification of DR Congo, who are set to be their opening Group K opponents shortly after the friendly.

In the latest FIFA rankings, Nigeria are placed 26th globally, with Portugal ranked fifth and Poland 35th.

The June fixtures are expected to provide a valuable test for the Super Eagles against top European opposition as they continue to build cohesion and momentum, with supporters eager to see strong performances from key players following the recent Unity Cup.
