Sadiq Umar Sets Ambitious Goal to Restore Ranchers Bees FC to Nigerian Top Flight
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has announced his ambition to lead Ranchers Bees FC back to the pinnacle of Nigerian football following his landmark takeover of the historic Kaduna club, alongside lawmaker Bello El-Rufai, Sport360NG reports.
The acquisition signals a major moment in the club’s history, with the 27-year-old forward vowing to restore Ranchers Bees’ reputation as a talent hub and a source of pride for Kaduna football fans.
Once a powerhouse in the national scene, Ranchers Bees boasts a storied history, having produced numerous former internationals and leaving a lasting legacy in the Kaduna football landscape. Reflecting on the move, Sadiq Umar expressed his excitement about reviving the club’s former glory.
“My partner, Hon. Bello, and I are determined to bring the club back to its golden days. Growing up, I watched Ranchers Bees nurture countless players. It’s a source of pride and joy for us to officially own the club,” Sadiq said.
The new leadership has ambitious plans, including operating both an academy team and a professional side to compete in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
“Our goal is to achieve promotion to the NPFL. The support from Ranchers Bees fans and the people of Kaduna has been overwhelming. We aim to revive the club’s glory and bring fans back to the stands,” Sadiq added.
For the Kaduna-born striker, who honed his skills on the city’s local pitches, the takeover represents a personal mission to give back to his community.
“This is about more than just football, it’s about hope, opportunity, and pride for Kaduna residents,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to nurturing young talent and rebuilding the club.
Following the takeover, Nura Abdullahi has been appointed club president, tasked with overseeing operations and implementing a long-term strategic vision. Faisal Abdullahi Tozo, chairman of the Kaduna State Football Association, has pledged full support to ensure the club’s stability and growth.
Currently under contract with Real Sociedad until 2028, Sadiq is reportedly not in the Spanish club’s plans for the 2025/26 season. Last term, he featured in 30 matches across spells with Sociedad and a loan stint at Valencia, scoring six goals, though he struggled to consistently hit peak form.
Known for his aerial prowess, physical strength, and ability to trouble defenders, the 192cm forward continues to attract interest despite a challenging spell in Spain. Since joining Sociedad in 2022, injuries have hindered his progress, and potential moves to clubs like Elche, Deportivo Alaves, and Valencia stalled due to financial limitations.
