Nottingham Forest rally to seal first Premier League win under Dyche
Nottingham Forest fought back from a goal down to defeat fellow strugglers Leeds United 3-1 and claim their first Premier League victory under new manager Sean Dyche, Sport360NG reports.
Leeds took the lead when Brenden Aaronson’s clever pass found Lukas Nmecha, who fired a low shot into the far corner. But Forest hit back almost immediately as Ibrahim Sangare pounced on a rebound after goalkeeper Lucas Perri spilled Dan Ndoye’s effort.
Captain Morgan Gibbs-White then headed Forest in front, meeting a fine cross from substitute Omari Hutchinson, before Elliot Anderson converted a late penalty to seal a much-needed win.
It was far from a classic encounter, but Forest deserved the points after showing greater purpose and energy, particularly in the second half. The victory lifts them to nine points, two behind Leeds, though they remain 19th in the table.
Dyche gets a lift at last
For Dyche, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou after his brief 39-day spell in charge, this win eases early pressure and could mark a turning point. Forest were behind for just over two minutes before Sangare’s equaliser, and they grew stronger as the game progressed.
Gibbs-White, who was denied a summer move to Tottenham, has now scored three goals since Dyche’s arrival after failing to find the net under the previous manager. He left the pitch to a standing ovation from supporters who had previously criticised his form.
Dyche’s triple substitution midway through the second half changed the game, with Hutchinson providing the assist for Gibbs-White’s header and later earning the decisive penalty. Anderson, stepping up in place of his substituted captain, coolly dispatched his first Premier League goal from the spot.
Leeds falter again
Leeds will rue their inability to hold onto an early lead, conceding just two minutes after Nmecha’s opener. Despite their work rate, Daniel Farke’s side offered little attacking threat, with only a pair of late efforts from substitutes Daniel James and Dominic Calvert-Lewin forcing Matz Sels into action.
The defeat leaves Leeds hovering just a point above the relegation zone and searching for answers after another disappointing performance.
