Chelsea’s Liam Delap out with shoulder injury as 0-0 draw at Bournemouth ends in frustration

Chelsea striker Liam Delap suffered a shoulder injury during a goalless Premier League draw at Bournemouth on Wednesday, forcing him off in the first half, Sport360NG reports.

The England Under-21 international appeared to dislocate his shoulder while challenging Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi during a corner. Delap was replaced by teenager Marc Guiu following a series of physical duels, while Senesi also left the field later in the match due to overstretching for the ball.

The encounter, which saw Chelsea recall Cole Palmer for his first start since September 20, was largely cagey, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Palmer lasted 58 minutes after returning from a groin injury and a toe fracture sustained in November.

Bournemouth nearly opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Antoine Semenyo capitalised on Evanilson’s blocked effort, but the goal was correctly ruled out by VAR for a marginal offside. The hosts showed early promise, with Semenyo testing Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with a long-range effort and almost assisting Evanilson.

Chelsea threatened through Marcus Tavernier and Alex Jimenez before Marc Cucurella’s header narrowly went over Pedro Neto’s cross. Delap had a shot blocked before being forced off, leaving Chelsea to chase the game.

After the interval, Chelsea dominated possession, with Alejandro Garnacho hitting the post and attempts from Neto, Palmer, Guiu, and Enzo Fernandez kept Bournemouth on alert. Both sides made attacking substitutions, including David Brooks, Amine Adli, and Enes Unal for the hosts, while Chelsea introduced Joao Pedro and Estevao Willian.

Bournemouth held firm in the second half, with Semenyo’s dribble and shot representing their only significant threat. Senesi’s departure further disrupted their rhythm.

The result extends Bournemouth’s winless streak to six matches, but they can take solace from avoiding defeat against a top-six side. Chelsea, meanwhile, are now three games without a win, leaving their title ambitions under scrutiny.
