AFCON 2025: Davido backs super eagles with $25,000 bet
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has once again underlined his strong interest in football by placing a $25,000 (about ₦36 million) wager on Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Sport360NG reports.
The award-winning singer shared an image of his betting slip on social media platform X on Sunday, alongside the message: “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”

According to the slip, placed via the Stake app, Davido backed both teams to score in Nigeria’s Group C clash against Tanzania, a selection that could yield a potential payout of $96,564 (approximately ₦140 million).
The bet is the latest in a series of high-profile wagers by the music star involving the Super Eagles. Before Nigeria’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Gabon, Davido staked $10,000 (₦15 million) on a Nigerian victory with both teams scoring, a bet that offered a possible return of $50,194.58 (₦75.2 million). Nigeria, however, went on to lose that encounter.

Despite that setback, Davido’s public support for the national team appears undiminished. His latest wager has nonetheless sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans playfully questioning his loyalty, while others suggest the move is largely promotional, given his role as a Stake ambassador.
Nigeria will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, December 23, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, as they chase a fourth continental title.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, are among the favourites to progress from Group C, which also features Tunisia and Uganda. Led by key figures such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Nigeria hold a clear advantage on paper, ranking 38th in the world compared to Tanzania’s 112th in the FIFA standings.
Tanzania have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive match, a statistic that further boosts confidence within the Nigerian camp. However, the Super Eagles’ recent failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has slightly dampened expectations, leaving even the most passionate supporters cautiously optimistic.
